Get Involved

by Aug 3, 2016

We love tour groups!

The Boone County Historical Society enjoys hosting group tours of all sorts. From scout troops to tour buses and antique car clubs, we can accommodate a variety of groups.

Currently, all of our museums are closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. When we reopen, tours should be arranged well in advance. Contact us at or call 515-432-1907 and leave a message. Since the Center is not staffed regularly, emailed questions get answered more quickly.

There are a lot of exciting ways to get involved with the Boone History Museums! From becoming a member, to volunteering, to just attending our programs we have a place for everyone. We invite each member of our community, or from afar, to join us in whatever capacity they feel comfortable.

Play an important part in preserving Boone County’s heritage by “adopting” a collection at the Boone History Museums. All funds raised from tax-deductible adoption fees will support the preservation, storage and management of museum artifacts. Browse below for an available collection that interests you or is within your giving budget! To adopt just contact the BCHS or send your payment, requested collection, and contact information, it’s that easy to help preserve history in a meaningful way!

Though adoption in no way constitutes legal claim to artifacts and all objects will remain property of the Boone History Museums, patrons will receive the following benefits: a certificate of adoption, a photograph of their newly preserved collection, patron’s names are perpetually associated with their object and will be included in their unique exhibition credit line, and, most importantly, the satisfaction of helping to preserve Boone County’s history for generations to come. Patrons choosing a collection with an adoption fee over $250 will also be invited to an annual Adopt A Collection Behind the Scenes Tour with the Executive Director who will discuss and display your artifacts during a tour of the Boone History Center.

Adopt an object/collection from your favorite era, or honor a friend or family member by providing an adoption in their name. With thousands of artifacts, the Society will continue to list new items offering many opportunities for adoption throughout the year.
